Four Geology Jobs Available

We've got four job postings for you. Instead of listing them all here, just download this PDF to view all the information you need. I believe there is one internship available, too.

Each sheet is a separate job. Good luck!

Volunteers needed! Yes, you! No, don't close the window!

On Saturday, October 6, 2007, APO is having their annual Math and Science Camp.

Math and Science Camp is for "underprivileged elementary students, grades 3rd through 6th, who might be struggling in their studies. This one-day camp features fun and educational workshops that help spark the children's interest in learning."

And guess what? We get to teach them how hard geology minerals rocks! There will be two classes: a rocks and minerals class, and a geologic disaster class. Plans are starting to come together, but we NEED VOLUNTEERS to help out!

Please contact Alex if you're interested in helping underprivileged kids learn about geology. You can e-mail him or stand and wait in the hall outside the geosciences department--he'll be by eventually.

GeoClub Meeting, Field Trip, and more!

Okay, we've got several things for you here.

GeoClub Meeting
There's a GeoClub meeting on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at 12:15pm in FO 2.604. Daniel Puffer, an undergraduate (not to be confused with Daniel Puffe), will be giving a talk on his experiences while studying geology abroad in Ireland and Greece. Also, the Office of International Education will be giving a short presentation on study abroad programs offered here at UTD.

Free pizza as always!

Lignite Mine and Power Plant Field Trip
A bus tour of TXU's Big Brown Lignite Mine and the adjacent Big Brown Steam Electric Station has been arranged for Friday, September 28, 2007. The bus will be at the rear of parking lot A. Boarding will begin at 7:15am and depart as close as possible to 7: 30am. The bus is expected to return to campus by 5:00pm. Bring your own lunch, the mine will provide the drinks.

If you are interested in participating in the field trip, please contact Bob Finkelman (bobf@utdallas.edu, ext 2459).

Help Wanted!
On Saturday, October 6, 2007, APO is having an elementary school math and science competition. I believe we're doing some geology specific things, and Alex needs some help! Just talk to Alex or e-mail him for more information.

We're also looking for people to help with tutoring physical geology, historical geology, and earthquakes and volcanoes ("shake and bake") classes. If you're interested, just leave a comment saying so or contact Alex.
